Catholic Charities partners with others in advocating for justice and in assisting those in need by creating help for today and hope for tomorrow.? That is the official mission statement of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Stockton. For over 60 years, Catholic Charities has served as a sign of hope to people of all ages, religions, and races by providing social services, an emergency food program, assisting immigrants with legal status adjustment, and enrolling children in health insurance programs in the San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Mother Lode Counties.
The Emergency Food Bank, founded in 1968, is the largest direct provider of packaged emergency food in San Joaquin County. Over 1000 people a day benefit from the Food Bank services. Food is distributed through the main pantry, which serves 150-250 families each day, 13 satellite pantries, and over 30 non-profit agencies, The Food Bank emphasizes health, nutrition, food economics and education. All food bags are made up with an eye to balanced nutrition. The Food Bank provides classes in healthy, economical meal planning and preparation. Special bags are made for people with specific health problems.
